Growing in Grace

But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. (2 Peter 3:18)

Let’s pick up where we left off in the “Working Together” section. Remember, we want to start a big conversation.

Here, we are asking three questions that relate to a vibrant relationship in Christ. First, “What does it look like for our churches to grow in grace?” Second, “What are practical ways we can assist each other to grow in grace?” Third, “What barriers keep churches from growing?”

Continuing the conversation, we present this idea: We grow in grace to do good works in Christ. By God’s grace, we know that we are His workmanship, His masterpiece. By God’s grace, He created us anew in Christ Jesus for good works (Eph. 2:10). By God’s grace, we work hard (1 Cor. 15:10). By God’s grace, some of us plant, and some of us water, but we know that God causes the growth (1 Cor. 3:6). David Jeremiah says, “We’re not saved by good works, but for good works.”

By God’s grace, we do good works that honor Him. We hear and obey the words of Jesus when He says, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put in under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” (Matt. 5:14-16, ESV)

In the days ahead, may the Lord guide our steps. And may He guide our conversation together. Please send us your thoughts at sierrabaptistassocation@gmail.com.
